Food Storage

Getting Started - Milk

Step One: Know your milk.

Milk can be a challenge when it comes to food storage. Unless you have that 'holy cow' living in your backyard you will need to find alternate sources of long term storage milk. Thanks to technology there are processes that create good-tasting dry milk products:

The following is a list of milk products that you might consider storing:

Milk
regular non-fat milk powder, instant non-fat milk powder, Morning Moo, Chocolate Morning Moo, canned evaporated milk.

Cheese
fresh cheeses (American, cheddar, mozzarella, provolone, swiss, jack) ricotta cheese, cottage cheese, pimento cheese, powdered cheese blend.

Yogurt
store-bought yogurt, homemade yogurt

Although milk and milk products are perishable, many packaged cheeses have a relatively long shelf life (4 months, unopened) and can be frozen. You may want to consider storing a supply of cheese in your refrigerator or freezer to last you at least a few months.

Step Two: Determine how much much milk to store.   --->
